Its hard to overstate its historical and cultural importance.For most of human history, it was synonymous with life.Bread represented home, nourishment, and safety, and the specific type of bread you grew up with was emblematic of where you came from. When we staple bread to trees it attracts the birds to the tree. Birds build their nests up in the trees and the trees get nutrition from the birds pooping near them. In fact, by stapling bread to trees, we start helping the trees. This makes it dangerous to prune or remove the tree using a chainsaw at a later date. As the tree continues to grow it will grow around the nail, screw, or staple and you will not be able to remove it. My birds all come running when they see me carrying the wet food bowls the little con artists even would beg to come out of the pen, come out just far enough to watch me make the food, and then run back in ahead of me to wait for it because they figured out they wouldn't get wet food if they didn't go free range for a bit first. But is it a bad thing to staple bread to trees No, not at all. Using nails, screws, and staples on trees can be dangerous for humans as well. It is bread that is destroying our health and our planet. ![]() You can't make him eat the right foods, but they often prefer the higher-protein stuff anyway, and if you offer damp in a bowl (ie, soft), he will likely learn to really love it. It's okay as a treat sometimes, but not as a staple chow like some people use it for. Some people will recommend cat food/kitten chow for them, but the salt content is way higher than they should have. Just avoid Purina or Dumor and you should be fine. I prefer Belstra 28% turkey starter, but regional differences in chow may mean you can't get that. Make sure he's got access to fresh water deep enough he can get his nares wet, and provide high-protein chow (26-30%) someplace that's covered so it doesn't get wet.
